Caustic soda 50% liquid (sodium hydroxide) in 5 L and 20 L
Viva Blu caustic soda is sodium hydroxide (NaOH) supplied as a ready-to-use 50% liquid solution. Liquid caustic soda goes straight into your dosing pump, CIP tank or dilution vessel, with no dissolving step, no caustic dust and a consistent strength every time. It is used by water treatment operators, food and beverage plants, cleaning contractors, plumbers, councils and manufacturers.
What is caustic soda 50% used for?
- Water and wastewater treatment: pH correction, neutralising acidic effluent and precipitating metals.
- Food and beverage cleaning: clean-in-place (CIP) systems, bottle and keg washing, and removal of fats and proteins from process equipment.
- Cleaning and degreasing: heavy-duty removal of fats, oils, grease and organic deposits.
- Drains and grease traps: clearing fat, hair and organic blockages in commercial drainage.
- Manufacturing: soap making, chemical processing, textiles and metal surface preparation.
- Agriculture: cleaning irrigation systems, tanks and equipment.
- Pools and large water bodies: pH increase, used with care because it is much stronger than standard pH increasers.

Why 50% liquid instead of flakes?
- Ready to dose: no mixing, which avoids the heat and splashing of dissolving solid caustic.
- No dust: flakes and pearls can release caustic dust that harms eyes and lungs.
- Consistent strength: important for process control and repeatable cleaning.
- Pump-friendly: works with standard chemical metering pumps and CIP systems.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I buy caustic soda in Australia?
Viva Blu sells caustic soda 50% liquid online in 5 L and 20 L containers, delivered within Australia with dangerous goods freight, or free pickup from our Windsor, QLD warehouse.
Is caustic soda the same as sodium hydroxide?
Yes. Caustic soda, sodium hydroxide, NaOH and lye are the same chemical. This product is a 50% solution in water.
Can I use caustic soda to unblock drains?
Yes, caustic soda dissolves fat, hair and organic blockages. Wear gloves and eye protection, add it slowly, and never mix it with acids or other drain products.
Can caustic soda raise pool pH?
It can, but it is much stronger than standard pH increasers and easy to overdose. For most home pools, soda ash or bi-carb soda is simpler and safer.
Is this caustic soda food grade?
It is sold for industrial and commercial use. For direct food applications, use a product certified as food grade.
