Pearls are easy to measure and dissolve, and give you concentrated caustic for making your own solutions at the strength you need. They are used by water treatment operators, food and beverage plants, cleaning contractors, soap makers, plumbers and manufacturers.

Safety, handling and storage

Caustic soda pearls are highly corrosive and cause severe burns to skin and eyes. Dissolving pearls in water releases a lot of heat. Read the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use; SDS available on request: call 0402 981 808 or email contact@vivablu.com.au.

• Wear chemical goggles and a face shield, nitrile or neoprene gloves, a chemical-resistant apron and enclosed footwear. Avoid breathing dust.
• When dissolving, add pearls slowly to cold water while stirring, never water to caustic.
• Never mix with acids, and keep away from aluminium, zinc and galvanised metal.
• Pearls absorb moisture from the air. Keep the bag sealed, dry, in a cool, ventilated area, on a chemical bund and away from acids.
• For skin or eye contact, flush with water for at least 15 minutes and get medical help. Poisons Information Centre: 13 11 26.
